SUMMARY

After reading this chapter, you may be thinking that there is a great deal of
start-up work to perform. Why not just get to the detail? Suppose that you do
plunge directly into the details of a process. People will wonder what the project
purpose and scope are and will question what you are doing. There is no
common vision or support for change. Some people do not want to change the
process. Others want a new system, but that is it. Still others want radical
change. If you spend the time up front, you will be more likely to gain support.

A more basic question is about you. Do you really want to work on a process
that has no direction or plan? This seems pointless without objectives and scope.
The plan, strategy, and systems are all interrelated.
